The Moment Room
Have you ever had the petrol light come on your car and push it a little farther, run just a few more errands?
Most of us know that when our cars try to tell us they need something, we had better respond or they won’t get us to our destinations. We usually have some respect for red warning lights on the dashboard, and at least check out the problem. Unfortunately, it’s not always so easy to see our own signals
Our bodies and minds don’t come with bright red warning lights, but they do give us signals when they’re running low – irritability, poor concentration, moods, anxiety or depression to name a few.
“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day
is the rest we take between two deep breaths’ – anon
The truth is: if you want to feel calm and centred mother than you’ve got to hit the pause button on life, replenish your energy before returning to your family.
Once you are filled up, you are able to mother from a place of fullness – you will be able to hold it together when your children present challenging behaviour and flow more in your daily life.
Everyone has probably heard about the benefits of spending some time alone just to think and to gather their own thoughts. If you work, go to school, have a roommate, spouse – this time can be hard to come by and especially challenging to find time as a mother.
Mother’s have a hefty to-do list, and by default, they often put themselves at the bottom of the list. Sometimes, they don’t even make the list at all. Not to mention the guilt that almost all mothers struggle with when they take time away from their children to practise self-care.
I get it.
As a mother of two and a Kinesiologist, I hear the stories mothers share. One moment we feel flooded with love and kindness and we know we’ll do anything for these little people. And the next moment we’re tired and overwhelmed. Swinging between stressing and rushing to being disconnected and absent. Thankfully, I also get to see mothers grow, replenish and become more empowered through the small changes made with self care practises.
But how do you begin—especially if you’ve been at the bottom of (or completely missing from) your own to-do list for a while?
At The Nurture Pod we offer mothers a private space to disconnect from the outside world and connect within, to nourish the body, mind and soul.
